The Boiling Springs Fire Chief said the plane crashed on Hartness Drive around 1:00 p.m.
The dispatcher said the plane had crashed near 500 Hartness Drive.
The National Transportation Safety Board’s Peter Knudson said it was an educational flight.
He said someone on board declared a state of emergency and was directed to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, but the plane crash-landed about two miles southwest of the airport.
Knudson said the NTSB will not begin an investigation until it receives a damage assessment from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA issued the following preliminary statement to WYFF News 4:
“A single-engine Cessna 172 landed in the field behind the Hartness Industrial Park in Greenville, South Carolina at approximately 12:50 pm local time today. There were two people on board. increase.”
