Creighton’s men’s football has two Carolina natives returning to their old nests, sophomore midfielders Owen O’Malley and Landon Sloan.
“I always thought, ‘Oh, that would be cool to go to the College Cup. It would feel bad to play in front of my home fans.’ I can’t wait until Friday, it’s going to be fun.” said O’Malley.
He grew up in Cary, North Carolina, home of the College Cup.
Right around the corner, Landon Sloane grew up in Raleigh.
“It’s very interesting. I used to come here and train here almost every week with the NCFC. So it’s kind of surreal to come home with another family. It’s really cool,” Sloane said. said.
The sophomore set could see the cup from the stands at the WakeMed soccer park, but now he’s playing in the Final Four.
“I was there for a couple of years. It’s hard to see.I’m willing to get it.I did,” Sloan said.
And in front of all my family and friends, I was motivated to win the Clayton title.
“I dream of playing in the college cup, but playing in the college cup at home is also just a different level and expectation. It’s almost impossible to explain,” O’Malley said.
