Over 100,000 packages can pass through the facility on the night before Christmas.

Columbia, South Carolina — Less than a week until Christmas. USPS Processing and distribution centers are rushing to get your packages to your doorstep before the holidays.

The box will be placed on top of the box inside the USPS facility in Columbia.

According to plant manager John Kolenc, over 100,000 packages could pass through the facility on a given night the week before Christmas.

He said the workload of 790 handlers has nearly doubled, with more than 100 of them recently hired for the holiday rush.

“We’re opening another facility a few miles away from here to help carry packages, so we can ramp up our staff for the holidays and busy periods and handle the extra stuff.”

The crew unloads the parcel boxes from the truck at the docking bay. There, forklifts quickly move parcels to the floor. There, hundreds of assorted Christmas-colored envelopes are lined up in boxes.

Hope the process goes smoothly.

She stopped by the USPS store on Garners Ferry Road on Tuesday afternoon. She knows her grandchildren will be grateful even if the cards don’t reach Kentucky before Christmas.

That sentiment was the same for Alan Geoghegan, who hoped the package would reach his friend in Los Angeles.

“For me, it doesn’t really matter if it arrives by Christmas. In fact, I’m thinking about my best friend and I’m mailing him something and it’s coming to him two days later. , it doesn’t matter to me.” I think he will be very happy when he opens it. ”

If you ship your package via the Post Office, the only shipping method that allows you to receive gifts under the tree is Priority Mail Express, which has a Friday deadline.
