COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — South Carolina coach Shane Beamer has more than doubled his salary next season with a new deal worth more than $33 million over the next five years.

The school board approved the agreement on Friday. That raises Beamer’s salary next season to $6.125 million, up from his $2.75 million stipulated under the contract he signed two seasons ago.

The 45-year-old Beamer is 8-5 this past season after taking over a two-win team from 2020, having a back-to-back winning season, and ending his debut year in 2021 with the program’s first bowl win in four years. have become. Victory over a pair of top 10 opponents in Tennessee and Clemson.

Beamer has received a two-year extension until 2027. He would get a $250,000 raise every year on his contract.

Beamer’s buyout remained unchanged from his original contract, requiring him to pay South Carolina $5 million if he left South Carolina the following year. The contract will reduce that amount by $1 million each time he continues to coach.

Beamers can earn up to $150,000 in bonuses on non-college football playoff bowl games, and $1.25 million for winning a national title.

Beamer thanked the university administration for believing in his leadership.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved over the past two seasons, but this is just the beginning,” Beamer said in a statement.
