Durham, North Carolina — North Carolina Central University held a fair on Thursday to introduce undergraduates to the university’s 27 graduate programs and graduate opportunities for degrees and research.

Each program had a booth at the NC Central Event Center. One of the standout booths was the School of Education’s Visually Impaired Program.

VITP is a master’s level online training program for the visually impaired.

Shaun Ticken, an assistant professor in the Department of Education, said she hopes to raise awareness of the program among HBCU students who can fill about 100 vacancies across the state related to the field.

The program includes finding new ways to teach visually impaired students, including using 3D printing. Tikkun presented her sliced ​​3D skull as an example of how to teach visually impaired students the anatomy of the human skull through touch.
