Raleigh, North Carolina — Millions of Americans are worried tonight about last-minute changes to travel plans due to the massive winter storms that hit much of the United States this week.
At RDU International, some people change planes to reach their destinations.
According to AAA, more than 7 million people are expected to fly for the holiday.
In RDU, that number is almost 600,000.
Massive storms and arctic explosions are heading toward North Carolina.
Javier Olivarez, who flew from North Dakota to the RDU and stopped in Minnesota, says both locations are already covered in snow.
“Oh, my bad. Lots of ice. Lots of snow over there,” he said.
Showers and frigid temperatures are expected over the next few days here in the Triangle.
Pamela Howell moved her flight forward to avoid a cancellation, but her flight is still delayed and has been waiting at the airport since this morning.
The RDU saw 50 cancellations on Wednesday.
“They emailed me when I was getting ready and first said it would be delayed until this afternoon. Then another said it was postponed until tonight,” she said.
Many are already gearing up for the next few days, and we are likely to see even more delays and cancellations.
“We’re staying in Virginia tonight and heading to New Jersey tomorrow. My concern is Friday, depending on how the storm affects us,” said another traveler, Mark Bintlev. said.
RDU’s busiest travel day is Friday, with over 38,000 visitors. The slowest day is Sunday, with about 25,000 passengers.
