MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The man who set fire to a church in Montgomery County has been arrested.

Shane Dante Jones, 24, of Eagle Springs, was arrested and charged with felonies of breaking and entering a place of worship, arson of a church or religious site, and arson of private property, according to the North Carolina Department of Health. .

The arrest warrant alleges that Jones broke into the Kandor United Methodist Church on Saturday and set fire to a Bible on the church’s altar.

Special Agents and Fire Investigators were called in to assist in the investigation along with the Kandor Fire Department, Montgomery County Fire Department, Kandor Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, ATF and SBI.

Jones was being held at the Moore County Jail when he was arrested on these charges. He is being held on multiple other charges and given a bond of $145,000.
