By the time the deputies arrived, the Emu had reached mile marker 171.

A stray emu bird was recently rescued by a sheriff’s deputy while playing “frogger” on a busy North Carolina highway. The Halifax County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the emu bird on his Facebook two days ago. According to the post, the emu’s name is Lim.

The post also said the emu had reached mile marker 171 by the time the deputies arrived and was seen “playing Frogger in traffic.”

“Well, I helped Doug track down a rim today. Apparently he hadn’t thought about saving on the premium. Called about an emus roaming near Mile Marker 167 near I95. This bird made it to Mile Marker 171 before animal control and deputies arrived,” the agency wrote while sharing the post.

“Lim played Frogger in traffic moving 35 mph. Then he decided to stop and play in Choccoyotte Park, but he couldn’t fit on the swing. Hopefully he’s in hiding and won’t do this again,” the agency added.

The emu ended up at Chocoyotte Park in Roanoke Rapids, where it was arrested by police and returned to its owner.

The Department also thanked Halifax County Animal Control, Roanoke Rapids Animal Control, Halifax County E-911, RRPD, Wildlife North Carolina, and Sylvan Heights Bird Park for their support.

After being shared, the post received hundreds of likes and shares.

One user wrote, “Well done. Thank you for taking care of and keeping this animal safe.”

“I’m so glad he’s safe and no one was hurt,” another commented.
