Kentucky Football has done most of the work at the start of the transfer portal window, but has added a potentially big piece for 2023 in the form of North Carolina defensive lineman Keyshaun Silver.
After two seasons with Tar Heels, a former five-star player from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he moved to Lexington to fill a new-found hole in the English defensive line. Silver ranked him 31st in the 2021 class. 247 Sport Composite.
He managed only three tackles in two seasons at Chapel Hill and remains eligible for the next three years.
Here’s how 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks rated Silver as a high school prospect.

“A large-framed defensive lineman with the look of an edge player and the frame’s potential/strength to fit multiple roles in a variety of schemes. At least 6 feet 5 inches with an extended wingspan. We encourage testing as early as the second grade using a 40 and 4.6 short shuttle very less than 5.0. His natural athleticism lends him playmaking ability on the offense. Heavy-handed and punchy, whether as a D-lineman in the making or as an inline tight in the block-first end.. Overwhelms high school competition with a combination of size-strength-athletics. Fueled by surprising suddenness. Playing with general violence. Fall senior season wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic. Good as a junior but not great production. Possessing elite physics tools and the motor to underscore them, he’s projected as a multi-year high major starter with a long-term early-round NFL draft ceiling.”
Kentucky welcomes Silver with open arms after veteran starter Justin Rodgers leaves Lexington for a surprise entry into the Portal. Silver is now his seventh player to join the Wildcats via Portal.
