CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) — Firefighters say fireworks debris caused a fire in a home in South Charlotte.

The Charlotte Fire Department took pictures of a fire scene in the Ballantine area early Christmas.

The fire damaged three homes along 1700 blocks of Westmill Lane and forced residents to evacuate all three homes.

Officials said 40 firefighters were dispatched to the scene just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Fire officials said there was a raging fire in the garage when the crew first arrived.

Officials said the fire was accidental and caused by improperly stored fireworks debris.

No one was injured.

However, the fire caused about $230,000 in damage and took nearly 45 minutes to extinguish.
