BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A home in Burlington caught fire after clothes got too hot in the dryer and started smoldering.
They responded to the Herman Blue Court house fire just after midnight on Tuesday, according to the Burlington Fire Department. They arrived at the scene about four minutes after being dispatched and saw smoke coming from the house.
Once inside the house, firefighters had only a few minutes to confirm that there was a fire in the bedroom and that the fire was completely extinguished. No one was home when the fire broke out.
The fire was an accident, according to the fire department. They believe the laundry got too hot from the dryer and smoldered when it was brought out of the dryer into the bedroom, setting other clothes and furniture on fire.
Fire department officials believed the clothing that had caused the fire was some kind of rain jacket that got very hot in the dryer.
“It was new to us,” they said, but they were happy that the alarm system worked and firefighters were able to get home before things got out of control.
The fire department said the fire demonstrated the importance of surveillance and alarm systems. This was because the fire department responded quickly and helped minimize damage to homes.
