    Comporium Expands Fiber Network Around Woodford, SC

    Woodford, South Carolina–(business wire) — Hundreds of residents in and around the town of Woodford now have access to fast, reliable broadband. Comporium construction crews have been working near this town in northern Orangeburg County to expand the company’s fiber optic network. This project, combined with a similar expansion in 2020, will bring high-speed internet to approximately 300 addresses in this rural community at speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second. Comporium has also installed free public Wi-Fi access at the Woodford Community Center and North Town Pavilion.

    “Comporium began expanding its network across the region in 2020 to provide modern services to this economically challenged region,” said Comporium’s Vice President of Midland and External Affairs. One Ben Spearman said: “Working with local, county, and state leaders such as Rep. Jim Cliburn, we were able to identify a need in Woodford. We have been able to bridge the divide and give citizens more access.”

    Comporium continues to work with state and federal agencies to find ways to serve local customers. The company has upgraded its network in these regions with the help of a Rural Broadband Grant. Comporium received funding from the South Carolina Department of Commerce in collaboration with the South Carolina Broadband Authority within the Office of Regulatory Staff to secure the grant.

    Through a combination of private investment and state funding, Comporium was able to serve more than 1,650 addresses in South Carolina this year. In early 2022, the company completed a similar network expansion around the town of North, South Carolina. Over the past two years, Comporium has expanded its service within Lexington, Orangeburg and Saluda counties.

    Comporium also participates in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program. This federal program allows eligible families a $30 discount off their normal monthly Internet bill. This participation is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the community. During the coronavirus pandemic, when schools were closed for public health reasons, Comporium served hundreds of student families free of charge and continued to provide internet, voice, security and video services. , offers a variety of subscription options.
