This weekend will be cooler than usual, but dry. This chilly weather will continue next week.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A dry high pressure system settles in the region and will dominate the weather through the middle of next week. The next chance for rain is Tuesday as a weaker system passes south. Temperatures will be cooler than normal for the next 7 days. Expect colder than normal temperatures through the end of Decemberr.
Thursday was warm with rain showers across much of the Midlands. Columbia Airport reported his highest temperature of 68 degrees. The airport also received 0.64 inches of rain. A rain-laden front moved away from the area and cooler, drier air spilled behind the front.
It will be sunny and seasonally cool today. Midland’s highest will be in his mid-to-late 50s. It will be a little cloudy tonight. The lows fall in his mid-to-late 30s.
Our southern system will bring some clouds to the state on Saturday. Highs will be in the low 50s, but no rain is expected. The front will move in late Saturday, with cooler weather on Sunday. Highs plateau in his late 40s. Monday morning temperatures are expected to drop to the mid to upper 20s.
Weekdays will be colder than normal, with highs in the high 40s to early 50s. Rain is possible Tuesday through Thursday, but there are many uncertainties.
Temperatures are forecast to be below normal for the 8-14 Day Temperature Outlook. This powerful arctic anticyclone is expected to form in the southeast. Due to the placement of this cold air mass, the passing system could produce winter weather throughout the Southeast.
It’s too early to know what will happen in the days leading up to Christmas, but this is something to watch.
Long-term forecast models indicate winter weather in parts of the south from December 23 to December 26, but forecasts far beyond that are inaccurate.
You may have seen social media posts about snowfall, but you cannot trust or believe them at this time.
For southern winter storms, here are some tips:
- Snow is rare in South Carolina, especially in December
- Don’t trust maps with more than 3 days of snow
- Computer model storms are common
- If it’s going viral, it’s probably hype
- The cold air must be placed first (this time we need this)
- sleet ruins everything
- A few miles can make a big difference between what you see and what you don’t
- Follow only reliable and trustworthy sources
The chance of snow in Colombia in December is very low. Rarely. Columbia Airport has not reported measurable snowfall in December since 2010.
