Columbia, South Carolina – The Ole Miss lost 1-3 to South Carolina inside the Carolina Volleyball Center on Sunday afternoon, splitting the weekend series with the Gamecocks.
The Rebels (11-12, 7-6 SEC) struggled to side out as South Carolina hit with a strong .293 clip. Samantha Schnitta 15 kills increase the pace of attack, followed by Sasha Ratliff at 12.
A vibrant South Carolina started the game leading 7-2 and prompting an early timeout. Ratliff helped side out the Rebels and closed the gap with a 4-1 burst to take the lead with a 6-1 run. They continued to add to their lead, building it to his 4 from back-to-back Gamecock errors at 21-17. 375 in the set, with Schnitta leading with her 5 kills.
South Carolina fought back in the second set to extend their biggest lead of the match at 13-5. The Rebels tried to get out of the deficit, but there was no immediate return as the Gamecocks evened the match at his 1-1.
Both teams took an early lead to start the third set. Katie Corelli It gave Ole Miss a one-point advantage heading into the media break, but it was short-lived. The Gamecocks got the momentum going in the gym as he led 22-19. Ole Miss never backed down and climbed all the way into the second half of the set. With South Carolina at set point, Baer appeared to have tied the game with a thunderous kill, but a controversial in-the-net call awarded South Carolina the point.
Heading into the fourth set, the situation remained closely contested. Even as a 12-year-old, South Carolina started his 6-1 run and Ole his mistake forced both timeouts to burn. The Gamecocks extended their lead to 5 before finally running away with a set down in one fell swoop, playing the match in 4 sets.
Ole Miss will return to Oxford to face Auburn on Friday night at 6:30pm CT on November 11th.
