NEW HAVEN — A South Carolina man faces up to 20 years in prison for illegally bringing a gun from South Carolina into New Haven.

Marquis Pollard, 42, of Yemathy, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, officials said in an email.

Officials with the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Administration said Pollard sold the firearms in Connecticut in the spring of 2021 after learning that he “acquired firearms through a straw buyer in South Carolina.” the prosecutor said.

On April 19, 2021, investigators made “controlled purchases of 9mm Glock handguns and drum magazines” from Pollard and another man in New Haven, paying $1,500 from the guns, officials said.

“The firearm was one of five 9mm handguns purchased by an individual at a pawn shop in Port Royal, South Carolina, in the previous month of the Connecticut transaction.”

Pollard was arrested in May 2021. Prosecutors said he was in possession of three guns at the time.

Officials said he was previously convicted of second-degree robbery.

Pollard is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 20 and faces up to 20 years in prison, officials said.
