Tyrone, North Carolina (WGHP) — Patrick Daniels of Tryon won a $100,000 jackpot by purchasing a $1 Cash 5 ticket, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“They are definitely going to have a wonderful Christmas,” said Daniels.
Daniels, 61, said he made a prediction to his wife as he went to bed Wednesday night.
“I said to her, ‘Tonight I will win the lottery,'” he said. “And… I woke up this morning and I won. It’s unbelievable.”
Daniels said he had a typical start to the day when he woke up Thursday morning.
“I made school lunches for the kids. I made coffee for me and my wife. Then I sat down and checked my tickets,” he said.
When he saw him win, he said he couldn’t believe it.
“I was stunned,” said Daniels. “I showed it to his wife so she could check it.”
Daniels won the jackpot by matching all five white balls in Wednesday’s draw. He purchased his quick pick ticket at Tryon Foods his store on his road in Lynn, Tryon.
He arrived at lottery headquarters on Thursday to pick up his prize. After withholding the required state and federal taxes, he took home his $71,014.
Daniels said he plans to use the winnings to buy Christmas gifts for his family and put the rest into savings.
