Manteo, North Carolina (WNCN) — Just one day before Christmas Eve, several locations on the Outer Banks were submerged during a coastal flood warning.
NC 12, which is usually hit by storms, was flooded by 3 p.m. Friday, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
NC 12 in Salvo and Collington Road in Kill Devil Hills are closed due to flooding in Soundside. Additional flooding is occurring on the Nags Head-Manteo causeway.
Also, the town of Manteo was submerged in about two feet of water. Flooding appears to have started in Manteo around 10am on Friday.
The next high tide is at 7 PM, so more flooding is likely by then.Officials said NC 12 should reopen by 10pm
The area experiences westerly gusts of up to 50 mph.
In addition to winds and flooding, the Outer Banks will be in the single digits on Friday night. The warmest area is Frisco, where he expects a wind chill of 9 degrees overnight.
The National Weather Service has also issued Gale Advisories, High Wave Advisories, and Cold Wind Advisories for parts of the Outer Bank. A storm warning has also been issued for coastal waters in Dare County.
