RALEY, N.C. (AP) — Asiaha James scored a career-high 19 points Thursday night as North Carolina’s eighth-ranked North Carolina State University lost to Davidson in an 81-47 win.

James also had 3 assists and shot 5-of-6 on 3-pointers. The Wolfpack (10-1) won his 6th game streak and won the last non-conference contest of the season. Camille Hobby added her 14 points to her NC State while River Baldwin scored her 11 points and her team-high 11 boards.

Davidson (4-7) has a 10 point lead over Issy Morgan. Starting his college career at North Carolina State University, El Sutphin contributed an all-around performance with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but North Carolina State quickly rallied, finishing the opening period with a 17-7 run for a 10-point advantage in the second quarter. James boosted the Wolfpack off the bench and made all three 3-point attempts during that stretch.

North Carolina State then outscored Davidson 19-7 in the second quarter and trailed by 22 points in the intermission. Baldwin had 6 points and 7 rebounds with the Wolfpack in the second quarter.

Wolpac converted Davidson’s 14 turnovers to 19 points, but the Wildcats could only score 3 points from NC State’s 9 turnovers. North Carolina also beat Davidson 44-30 in the paint.

big picture

Davidson: It’s the third time the Wildcats have lost to a Power 5 opponent this season. Davidson won two games in a row, but was outplayed by North Carolina State. The disparity in skill and size showed on the glass as the Wolfpack rebounded the Wildcats 43-24.

North Carolina: Despite missing two starters, Wolfpack outscored their opponents by a comfortable 36 points. Diamond Johnson and Jada Boyd tended to injured ankles, while reserves Sanya Rivers and Mimi Collins got starting opportunities and played more than usual. Building that kind of confidence on the bench could help North Carolina State on the Atlantic Coast as he entered the conference’s hard-fought play.
